Product Description:
The
SR Aquaristik Aquarium Dual Stage CO2 Regulator Kit
is used to regulate the flow of carbon dioxide from standard North American CO2 bottles. Ideal for use in planted aquariums or for supplying CO2 to calcium reactors for reef aquariums or any other applications that require precise CO2 control. The CO2 regulator comes complete with large control output knob that dramatically reduces the chance of accidentally changing output volume, on/off electronic solenoid that can be used with a pH controller or timer, bubble counter and extra regulator seals.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
The operating pressure gauge will not return to O, even if I remove it from the CO2 bottle from the regulator.
This is completely normal; CO2 is stuck in the second stage of the regulator. You can simply plug in the CO2 solenoid and release the pressure by using the needle valve through the bubble counter.
Where is the best place to get my CO2 bottle filled?
If you are a local customer we can fill or exchange your CO2 bottle for you, most good aquarium stores will have an exchange program. If you do not have a local store that carries or exchanges CO2 bottles. Brew your own beer stores, welding supply, fire extinguisher refill stations or beverage companies can often fill your bottle. If your CO2 bottle is hidden and you are not too concerned about how it looks the best place to go is a welding supply company that has an exchange program.
My needle valve is difficult to adjust.
This is a simple fix; the rubber O-rings need to be lubricated. Turn off the CO2 from the bottle and purge the system. Remove the needle valve by turning it counterclockwise in until it comes away from the housing. Lubricate the two O-rings with silicone grease or Olive oil. Reinstall the needle valve and it should be as good as new!
The bottle pressure gauge is not working, it worked for a short time and now reading 0.
Your CO2 bottle is probably empty, the best way to check is to remove the regulator from the bottle and simply weigh the bottle on an accurate scale.
Most Aquarium CO2 systems are utilizing an aluminum 5 pound CO2 bottle, the bottle should weigh approximately 7.6 pounds empty and 12.6 pounds full. A 10-pound aluminum bottle empty weighs approximately 14.4 pounds and full weighs approximately 24.4 Lbs.
Even if there is still CO2 coming out of the bottle when you open the main valve without a regulator does not mean that there is any liquid CO2 left in the bottle. There is probably a bit of residual CO2 gas but not enough to register on the gauge.
If your bottle became empty quicker than you would expect, double check for leaks on all connections, the most common place is the connection from the regulator to the CO2 bottle. It is easy to test using a little bit of soapy water and a spray bottle or damp rag. Check all lines to make sure there is no damage or place where CO2 is leaking. Make sure you are using proper CO2 resistant line, if you are using aquarium airline especially silicone airline you could be losing CO2 through permeation.
If you notice leaks from the needle valve or bubble counter this could be caused by a dry seal, seals can be easily lubricated using silicone lubricant or a bit of olive oil. This normally does not happen for an exceptionally long time! All seals are pre-lubricated before shipping.
Can I put water in my bubble counter?
Yes, we recommend using distilled or deionized water in your bubble counter, glycerin or mineral oil will also work well and will not evaporate like water.
I keep increasing my regulator output pressure, but I am not getting many bubbles coming through my bubble counter.
This would normally indicate that your diffuser needs to be cleaned, do not increase the bottle pressure in order to force CO2 through the diffuser, this will cause issues and could possibly burst your CO2 line or damage or diffuser. We recommend an operating pressure of no more than 40 psi.
I just added a new CO2 diffuser, and no bubbles are coming out?
All ceramic diffusers have a break-in period they normally start working after 24 hours, you may have larger bubbles coming out at the beginning or none, do not increase pressure going to the diffuser, give it some time. If you increase the pressure you will eventually burst the line or a connection.
